This film features the whole of the performance from 1976 as the main item, which is supplemented as bonus features by two tracks from her concert in 1987 and four from her final show in 1990. This is the definitive Nina Simone live experience.


The bonus tracks on Live at Montreux feature additional performances from Simone's subsequent 1987 and 1990 appearances at the jazz festival. The 1987 tracks find her in supper club mode, accompanying herself on the Gershwin standard "Someone to Watch Over Me" and on "My Baby Just Cares for Me," which had recently been given a second lease on chart life by a British Chanel commercial ("I don't have the perfume," Nina grunts, "nor the money either"). But the real gems here are the five songs from her 1990 show, which find an Afrocentrically garbed elder-stateswoman Simone playing her hits to a rapturous, adoring audience.
