The ultimate Power Metal albums might seem like a grandiose statement to make today but it goes without saying that both Keepers albums are massively influential throughout the heavy metal world and remain among the greatest albums of their era. Listening to them from a distance of more than 20 years, they can still inspire and many bands of the genre cite these two albums as highly influential upon their own careers. Taking about four weeks to record Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I, the young Helloween band members knew they'd come up with something different and enticing. This wasn't another German thrash record, but several steps up for the band who with these albums, defined a genre and changed the landscape of heavy metal music forever. Predominantly written by lead guitarist Kai Hansen, Keepers Part I is driven along with relentless ferocity by the soaring vocals of Michael Kiske, fellow guitarist Michael Weikath, bassist Markus Grosskopf and now deceased drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg. With such stand-out tracks as, "I'm Alive", the epic "Halloween" and the single release "Future World", the entire album is a tour de force of epic proportions and has become a high water mark in the pantheon of power metal.

The following year Helloween released Part II in their Keepers legacy, however, contrary to much fan speculation, neither albums share any related concept regardless of their title match. Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II was this time predominantly written by guitarist Michael Weikath and was a conscious decision amongst the band members before the recording began, although as with Part I, a number of tracks are co-written among various members.

Whilst Helloween fans seemed fairly divided as to which Keepers album they prefer, there's no doubting that their grandiose style of dual harmony guitar excursions, furious drum patterns and soaring vocal gymnastics is again in prominence on this second set. The likes of the single "Dr. Stein" and the controversial "I Want Out" (written by Kai Hansen but not strictly related to his departure from the band following the world tour for the album), show a band reaching their critical and commercial peak and it's no wonder that Helloween perform tracks from both Keepers albums even to this day.
