Larry Chance and the Earls were a popular recording group from the 1960s formed in The Bronx, New York. In 1962, their single "Remember Then" was a hit, and "Life Is But a Dream," "Never" and "I Believe" also charted. As the oldies revival scene started a strong run in the early 1970s and 1980s, the Earls became one of the most requested groups in the doo-wop genre. They are still actively performing and remain on the oldies circuit.



This is an expanded and remastered successor to Collectables' much older Earls collections. If the three additional songs aren't enough to justify the purchase, the improved sound will be. The title track is the most recognizable of their songs, but there's a lot else here to recommend owning this CD -- "Never" is, if anything, an even more impressive song with an extraordinary performance by Larry Chance and an achingly beautiful chorus. The only thing missing that might've been nice to hear is "It's You," the original B-side of their debut single. The range of songs includes everything from classics of the theater ("Ol' Man River") to reprises of 1950's standards ("I Believe") to group compositions that showcase their most radiant ensemble work.
